8b75db4949e6ff0faba9d31b85f3a647 How Do Free Citizens Maintain Their Rights?Dependents demand that the world give them rights, without understanding their responsibilities in relation to their rights. Their conception of rights is the ability to do whatever they feel like doing, regardless of consequence.

Freemen understand that there are inescapable duties directly connected to unalienable rights. They know that the right to life corresponds with a duty to use that life wisely, productively, and in such a way as to not negatively impact the rights of others. Freemen understand that there are inescapable consequences attached to every thought, word, emotion, and action. As Viktor Frankl wrote, “Freedom threatens to degenerate into arbitrariness unless it is balanced by responsibleness.”

Rights without duties becomes selfishness; duties without rights becomes slavery. Rights are only secured and maintained by exercising them with responsibility.
