Homeschoolers Officially Declared Criminals (And Isn’t It About Time?)

I can’t believe all you homeschoolers out there who think you can just teach your children anything you want. And without official, state-sponsored credentials, as unbelievable as that sounds.

Breaking the LawIt’s time you all woke up and realized that you’re just a bunch of petty felons, selfish reprobates unwilling to sacrifice your lives and your children to the safekeeping of a benevolent and omniscient government.

Luckily, we have sensible and caring judges to put you in your place. On February 28th of this year, Justice H. Walter Croskey and two of his colleagues thankfully declared homeschooling to be a crime in California.

“Parents do not have a constitutional right to home school their children,” wrote Croskey in an opinion signed by two other members of the district court. “Parents who fail to [comply with school enrollment laws] may be subject to a criminal complaint against them, found guilty of an infraction, and subject to imposition of fines or an order to complete a parent education and counseling program.”

The decision quotes this statement from a California court case in 1961:

A primary purpose of the educational system is to train school children in good citizenship, patriotism and loyalty to the state and the nation as a means of protecting the public welfare.

I don’t know about you, but I’m sure heaving a sigh of relief now that that’s taken care of. Frankly, I don’t know how we’ve lasted so long with thousands of homeschoolers running rampant. Maybe that explains the drastic increases in teenage suicide, violence, and drug abuse.

And to think that all this time you thought you were homeschooling to benefit society. Silly homeschooling parents, education is for those with credentials (and lots of big guns).

That’s right, all you seditious homeschoolers! We are intent on making a big populous of mind-numbed robots that will swallow hook, line, and sinker all that we have got to offer them! How daaaare you resist our divine — er, inherent — right to make your own children your enemies! With just enough brainwashing, they will consent to their own infringement, and perhaps offer you up as a sacrifice to the Almighty State! All for the common good, of course…

How ’bout a good mantra from the Revolution, seasoned with a little salt-water? If you know what I mean…

Justice is to be blind, not ignorant!! This is about the most offending, dehuminizing, arrogant ruling of late. They made no mention of testing failures, quality of kids educations or anything to base thier bigotry. Their only motive was to cover up thier states laziness.

“The California Department of Education currently allows home schooling as long as parents file paperwork with the state establishing themselves as small private schools, hire credentialed tutors or enroll their children in independent study programs run by charter or private schools or public school districts while still teaching at home.

California does little to enforce those provisions and insists it is the local school districts’ responsibility. In addition, state education officials say some parents home school their children without the knowledge of any entity.” http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/california/la-me-homeschool6mar06,1,4399394.story

BTW - great post! Great site! Keep up the fight!

    Paul, thanks for the comment.

I actually take this ruling as a positive development, although indirectly so. Hear me out.

The law and the ruling are so completely out of whack with common sense, our heritage, and our visceral sense of all that is good, right, and true that this and other rulings like it–which I’m sure we’ll be seeing–will help propel common Americans to take more action than they ever have in the past.

In other words, it fuels the fire of patriotism. The more such rulings we have, the more angry people will get, the more they will want to do something about it, and the more primed we will be for revolution. My fervent hope is that it will be a bloodless, peaceful revolution, something that the world has really never seen. But we have the capability of undertaking it.

In the meantime, we keep moving forward, keep spreading the word, keep doing our utmost to be the change we want to see in the world. It’s nice to be in the trenches with you.
